Cat Parkour or PK

September 29, 2010 by

Cats featured today:  Cairo, Coco,  Meeky ( aka Puss), Razzle, Smokey and Titania.

Parkour (sometimes abbreviated to PK), or l’art du déplacement (English: the art of movement) is the physical discipline of training to overcome any obstacle within one’s path by adapting one’s movements to the environment. It is a non-competitive, physical discipline of French origin in which participants run along a route, attempting to negotiate obstacles in the most efficient way possible. Skills such as jumping and climbing, or the more specific parkour moves are employed. The goal of a practitioner of parkour, called a traceur if male, or traceuse if female, is to get from one place to another using only the human body and the objects in the environment. The obstacles can be anything in one’s environment, but parkour is often seen practised in urban areas because of the many suitable public structures available such as buildings and rails ( from Wikipedia)

Here is an example of Cat Parkour Via The Daily Tail

Can your cat do this?

A lot of cats coming and going and very busy at the cattery. The rainy days continue but today we had sun in the morning. The cold weather is gone and we are in the process of swapping wardrobes and putting away heat pads. The cats don’t have that problem.

Gingernuts on show

September 23, 2010 by

Cats featured today and they’re all ginger: Cairo, Dennis, Meetu, Meggs and Peanut.

We liked the illustrations of Louis Wain although his images of cats became more threatening as his mental illness progressed.  If you have to go mad, surrounded by cats would be the best way.

For more images google louis wain cats

We have a big group of tortoiseshells and another one of blondies. We thought we should showcase one of them. No dumb blonde jokes, please!

Cairo, a recent arrival, is getting used to the cattery

Dennis is a lovely boy, going home soon

Meetu on a mission

Meggs is not a morning person

BB’s Story

September 21, 2010 by

Cats featured today Angel, ChiChi, Finte, Jersey, Meetu, Pedra, Precious, Razzle and Simba

A dear friend in Canada just rescued a pussycat and we though the story was worth telling:

“I’ve been busy taking care of a little 5 week old kitten that we brought back from a farm. She was the runt in a litter of 5 (unfortunately 2 expired so there were only 3 left). Their mother was run over by a truck when they were only a week old so they were bottle fed after that. When we got there they were 4 weeks old and drinking milk/oatmeal out of a bowl.

That’s milk and oatmeal all over her face. Her mother died when she was too young and so she didn’t know how to clean herself. She got her face washed shortly after that picture (with wet paper towel) and she had dried oatmeal encrusted all over her neck – that was taken care of too. So that was it, my mother instinct came out and she was taken under my wing.

She adopted me I think, they are outside farm cats and they’re not allowed in the house. September means the beginning of the cold weather out there (rural Canada) – I was freezing and I had layers of clothes on. Every time I went out there she would be shivering and she would sit on my lap and purr and purr and purr. She was pretty shaky on her legs – I think her brother and sister were eating all the food and were picking on her all the time (unless I was out there) so she wasn’t as developed as they were. Her eyes still had that baby kitten over-glaze on them, and she was pretty skinny.

When we left she came with us. Both my husband and I, agreed that she wouldn’t have made it if we’d left her where she was. She slept almost the entire drive back, spent the night as a princess in a four star hotel (first time in any house) and then slept again all the way home.

Her digestive system has adapted well to cat milk and kitten food. She is now a bundle of energy and takes lots of naps. My dogs seem to have adopted her – she sleeps with my Mastweiler during the day and with me during the night. My other cats don’t like her too much yet, but the Masterweiler keeps at eye on them and makes sure they don’t hurt her. After a week of being here, she has almost doubled in size and is definitely not on shaky legs any more. Her favourite past time seems to be to chase my little white dog – he doesn’t like it too much, but hasn’t shown teeth yet. I think it’s the fluffy white hair of his that she likes.

She is so tiny she can fit in the palm of my hand, so it is quite a sight to see her cuddled up to a Mastweiler. Let me introduce to you the new and improved BB:

And these are her siblings at the farm

So I’ve been a little preoccupied with my new charge – too bad I have to go back to work on Monday – she’s going to miss me (and I her).”

So glad that BB had an opportunity to have a better life!

We had a bit of a beak in the rainy weather today and everybody a bit happier about it. It’s miserable when it rains and nobody can go out.

and the making of  is even better!

A day without electricity due to rewiring of some poles in the valley, we managed to keep the cat’s rooms clean and answer phone calls thanks to the wonders of technology, but it’s soo good to have it back.

The warm weather continues and everybody is happier about not having to curl up at night.

Our new shade cloth went up today, it will protect the pusses  from UV rays in the sunniest side, although both sides get quite a bit of sun since we got rid of the dreaded Camphor Laurel at the back. Improvements to be continued after the school holidays.

Here are the pusses featured today

Angel, a lovely tabbie, is adjusting well

We only managed a headshot of Indy, she was napping

Trojan Bird

We had a sad week with news of the passing of two of our guests ( from different families). In both cases lovely cats with great personalities: Rennie and Mikie. They both had excellent lives and their parents did everything they could for them. Special thanks to Dr. Cruickshank from Gold Coast Veterinary Surgery for being there for Mikie.

On a happier note, Bailey and Gizmo might be going home next month if the purchase of a new house goes through. They were so excited to hear that!

We have a great group of cats staying at the moment so here they are.

Alberto a ragdoll that behaves just like our own Brooky

Bub a lovely kitten that has to check out every single corner

Butchie always first for breakfast and dinner

Gizmo looking beautiful

Things to do places to go, Jack
